How to use this template.

Check what happened to each debt over one statement period. Actual charges and interest stay visible, so a payment is not mistaken for pure principal reduction.

  1. Use one row per debt for the same statement period.
  2. Enter the opening balance, new charges, actual statement interest and payments. Enter 0 for a known zero.
  3. Compare the calculated closing balance with your statement. Replace the next period opening balance with the verified closing balance.

A few useful answers.

Why is interest entered manually?

Statements can use daily balances, fees and timing that a simple tracker cannot infer. Entering actual interest makes the reconciliation checkable.

Does a payment always reduce debt by the same amount?

No. New charges and interest also affect the balance. Net reduction is opening balance minus closing balance.
